In 2017 a new garden coordinator recognized the potential of the Heritage Garden at Elmhusrt College to be a teaching tool for community members to learn the skills and techniques needed to increase food security. The garden supplies the college’s dining services, as well as the local food pantry, with local organically grown produce. Learn about the transformation of the garden to a high-yielding raised bed system and the steps that are being taken to make the garden an integral part of Elmhurst College and the surrounding community.
Dr. Kyle F. Bennett is an Associate Professor of Biology at Elmhurst College. While his professional expertise is in marine ecology, he has been using his biological knowledge to garden in an ecological manner for over twenty years.
