Cathy KimberIt started in 1991 when Cathy Kimber started walking outside in Warrenville for exercise. She noticed that trash, wrappers, bottles and cans littered the sidewalks. She started picking it up -- soon she started organizing groups  to work in their neighborhoods ... from Fox Hollow and Emerald Green to Galusha and Melcher, she organized groups to pick up litter and recycle items as needed. She called them the Adopted Block Club (ABC's).

litterOver time, people have moved, and groups disbanded. This year Cathy, along with the America in Bloom team is re-energizing this program. Of course you can clean up litter and debris any time - whenever you see it. Officially, the ABC urges people to come out, just one hour (or less once it's clean) on the last Saturday of the month, and clean up the debris that has collected in their neighborhood.  Here's how it works:

Who: Anyone. This is a good family project. Please walk with the children and keep them safe.
Where: Choose a block in your neighborhood
What to Bring: Bucket, Bag, Gloves
When: Last Saturday of the month (April to October) from 8-9 am
How Long: 1 hour - or less
What to Wear: Red, White, or Blue - so you can recognize the ABC groups
Register: Send an email with your name and the block you are cleaning to theadoptedblockclub@gmail.com

Planting Pride LogoThe goal is to get all of Warrenville out at the same time. This small effort shows that we take pride in our community - and that has big benefits for everyone! Organize your neighbors, or go out on your own. Whatever works best for you!
